How to sell products subject to the deposit-refund system
The deposit-refund system applies to you if you hold a business account and sell particular products. Get familiar with key information related to your sales on Allegro.
The deposit-refund system will be introduced in Poland on October 1, 2025, based on the European Parliament's directive and the regulation of the Polish Minister of Climate and Environment. The legal basis for its introduction is available in Polish on the website of the Polish Ministry of Climate and Environment. The system will be mandatory in all Polish stores, both brick-and-mortar and online. This article describes how the system will work on Allegro. It will be regularly updated. We will publish information about the crucial changes in the News.
New obligations related to the deposit-refund system will apply to all entrepreneurs in Poland who sell beverages in packaging covered by the deposit. These are:
- single-use plastic bottles up to 3 liters
- metal cans up to 1 liter
- reusable glass bottles up to 1.5 liters.
The manufacturer or entity introducing the beverage on the market decides on how they will participate in the deposit-refund system. The manufacturer can settle the deposit on their own with a selected deposit-refund system operator or charge it to buyers. If they opt for the second solution, the packaging must have a special, visible deposit symbol:
If you only sell online (no retail space; this rule does not apply to warehouse space), you are not obliged to collect return packaging or refund the deposit. If you want to, you can set up a collection point. Allegro does not mediate the collection of empty packaging or the settlement of deposits with the operator and the buyer.
Your customers will be able to get the full deposit back. All they will have to do is return empty, undamaged packaging to one of the thousands of collection points across Poland.
The transition period will run from October 1 until December 31, 2025. During that period, it will be possible to produce and introduce products on the market in packaging without the deposit symbol, for which deposit will not be charged. There is no specified time limit for selling off stock of products in non-deposit packaging.
What products are covered by the deposit
The deposit-refund system will cover beverages intended for direct consumption.
Examples of products covered by the deposit-refund system | Examples of products not covered by the deposit-refund system |
---|---|
water, juices, nectars, carbonated drinks, energy drinks, iced teas, beer, and other alcoholic beverages in packaging up to 1.5 liters, dietary supplements in cans | Examples of products not covered by the deposit-refund system all dairy products (milk, yogurts, kefirs), dilutable syrups, medicinal products, and coffee in jars |
The deposit will not apply to all beverages. This means that two versions of products — with and without a deposit — will be on the market at the same time (for example, beverages coming from older batches or imported beverages).
You can list products with a deposit in specified subcategories. You can list products with and without a deposit symbol in the subcategories listed below.

What the deposit amount is
Deposit amounts:
- 0.50 PLN — for single-use plastic bottles (made of HDPE or PET) and metal cans
- 1 PLN — for reusable glass bottles.
What it means for you
If you sell products that are subject to the new regulations on Allegro, you are obliged to:
- mark your offers correctly — separately for the products with and without a deposit
- charge the deposit from buyers at the moment of purchase — you will get the deposit amount together with money from sales
- provide information in the offer description that each product purchased online can be returned at any collection point — for example, reverse vending machines, big grocery stores, or other points designated by local authorities.
According to the regulations, the deposit cannot be included in the product price. It has to be presented separately and be clearly visible wherever the product price is displayed — both on product lists and in offers.
How it affects your Allegro settlements:
- the deposit is not subject to VAT
- we do not charge sales commission from the deposit
- we do not include the deposit in the total purchase value that qualifies orders for free Smart! delivery or in the free delivery threshold you specify yourself.
Example
You sell a 1-liter bottle of a beverage in a single offer. We display the price of a single beverage and the deposit amount for this product — 1 PLN. In another offer, you sell a set consisting of 12 units of a 1-liter beverage. We display the set's price and the deposit amount for each unit — 12x1 PLN = 12 PLN.
How you can add the deposit to the offer
You can add it while listing the offer. If you select a specific subcategory in the listing form, we will display a field where you can provide:
- deposit
- packaging type
- number of units in the offer.
We will automatically calculate the deposit amount and display in on the offer page.
If you list a set consisting of different products that come in different packaging, you can add the deposit for each packaging type in the listing form.
We will not create new products in the Catalog for products with a deposit — even if they have new GTINs (EAN codes). We will add products with a deposit, together with the new GTIN (EAN code) to products already existing in the Catalog.
How to settle the deposit with the operator
You can check the deposit amounts you charged in the Orders tab — in the Order details section. We display the deposit amount for a single product and the entire order.
You can find the seller's responsibilities regarding settling the deposit and a list of the official operators of the deposit-refund system on the website of the Polish Ministry of Climate and Environment (available in Polish) and the operators' websites. Allegro will not mediate in settling the deposit collected with the operator or in collecting the returnable packaging.
How to process refunds and complaints for products with a deposit
If the buyer decides to return a product as part of withdrawing from the agreement concluded remotely, you should refund them the money paid for the purchase and the deposit.
If the packaging is damaged in transport and the buyer lodges a complaint, you are obliged to:
- refund them money for the products and the deposit or
- replace the product with a new product in perfect condition.
You can pursue claims with the carrier regarding the quality of the delivery service.
Frequently asked quest
What if I share offers in foreign marketplaces?
If you want to sell abroad, you must follow the local law. Currently, the deposit-refund system functions in the Slovak and Hungarian marketplaces. It will soon launch in the Czech marketplace. We will soon enable charging the deposit in the foreign marketplaces. We will let you know about it in the News. Until it happens, act in accordance with the local regulations.
Does the deposit have any effect on selecting the Top offers?
No. Any offer, with or without a deposit, can become the Top offer that represents a given product.
What if I sell products from abroad not covered by the deposit-refund system on allegro.pl?
You should follow the Polish regulations. If you act as the distributor of those products in Poland, you are obliged to introduce fees or properly label products and charge buyers with the deposit. If you sell imported products, but another company is the entity that introduces them on the market — that company decides how to join the deposit-refund system.
How to sell dermocosmetics

Their main characteristic is a high content of active ingredients with proven efficacy. Dermocosmetics are developed in cooperation with dermatologists for people with various skin problems.

How to sell products containing batteries
Learn how to list products containing batteries in accordance with the law.
If you sell products containing portable batteries, such as microphones, night lamps, or air conditioners, complete the CE parameter. You will find it in the Safety information section in the listing form. This way, buyers will see that information in the parameters section on your offer page.
What the CE marking is
The CE marking on a product confirms that it meets the safety requirements. It lets the buyer know that the product is safe and correctly placed on the market.
Only the product manufacturer or their authorized representative can assign the CE marking.

According to the regulations, from February 18, 2027, products that contain portable batteries should come with instructions and safety information on the use, disposal, and replacement of batteries. The buyer should also be informed about:

You can sell veterinary OTC medicinal products on Allegro if:
- you hold a business account

If you run a business registered in Poland

- Go to the Account Details tab and click Veterinary Drugs in the Special statuses section.
- You will be redirected to a dedicated page. There, click [reporting the start of selling].
If the report button is inactive, it means your business has not been registered with the Polish General Veterinary Inspectorate, or you have not provided your Allegro login in the business details. In that case, start by registering with the Polish General Veterinary Inspectorate or update your details with your Allegro account login.
- When you click [reporting the start of selling], you will be redirected to a form with declarations you need to check.
The form will differ if you run a veterinary establishment. Complete the form appropriate for your type of business and click [send].
- The form will be sent to us. A moment later, once we approve it, we will display a confirmation that you can sell veterinary medicinal products on Allegro.
If you run a business registered outside Poland
Before applying for the special status, ensure your business is entered into a registry of entities that carry out online OTC drugs retail, managed by a relevant nationwide institution. Apart from your business details, the entry should also include the name (login) of the Allegro account on which you want to sell veterinary OTC medicinal products.
- Download the declaration (available in Polish), print it out, complete, and sign it.

Dietary supplements
If you want to list dietary supplements on Allegro, make sure that the Main Sanitary Inspectorate has approved them for sale.
Before you list an offer with a dietary supplement, make sure selling it is allowed. You can check it in the register of the Main Sanitary Inspectorate (available only in Polish). If your supplement is on the list and is approved for sale, you can list it on Allegro. With that, you can be sure that your customers will buy a product that is safe for them.
Offer title and description
Before you list a product, make sure its name in the offer title and description matches:
- the name on the label
- the information in the Main Sanitary Inspectorate register.
Check which form of your product is registered ― capsules, drops, pills, and so on. It is important because only in this form can you sell a dietary supplement. Include this information in the offer description, as well.
The offer description cannot suggest that the dietary supplement has medicinal properties — for example, that it lowers blood pressure. According to its definition, a dietary supplement is a food that:
- is intended to supplement the regular diet
- is a concentrated source of vitamins or minerals and/or substances that exhibit nutritional or other physiological effects.
When you should add an additional label photo
Dietary supplements may have multiple labels. It affects the way they are registered by the Main Sanitary Inspectorate. We recognize dietary supplements:
- with a label in Polish, registered under a Polish name
- with a label in Polish, registered under a foreign name
- with a label in language other than Polish, registered under a Polish name.
In the first two cases, the name on the label matches the name in the Main Sanitary Inspectorate register. This is the name you should include in the offer title and description.
In the last case, the names are different, which may confuse the buyers. This is why you should also include the Polish name of the supplement in the offer title and description. Moreover, add a photo of the additional label in Polish stuck on the product. With this, we know for sure your product is approved for sale.
Additional information in the offer
While listing an offer, make sure you include as much information as possible. This way, buyers can learn more about your product and are more likely to buy it. Include information about:
- product classification ― the information about whether your product is listed in the Main Sanitary Inspectorate register as a dietary supplement, medical product, or something else
- the product form: capsules, pills, liquids, or other.
- how much product there is, for example, weight or number of pills
- the ingredients and their exact concentration
- the recommended daily intake
- warnings concerning intake
- the manufacturer or distributor along with their contact information
- the way to store the product.
Legal basis
In this article, we refer to article 29 (1) of the Act of August 25, 2006, on food and nutrition safety (Polish Journal of Laws of 2006, No. 171, item 1225) (available only in Polish).
