Get ready for the launch of Allegro in Hungary — learn about the differences between the Polish and Hungarian markets
Learn about the differences between the Polish and Hungarian markets and prepare for selling in Hungary.
Allegro will soon launch in Hungary — as we announced, the new marketplace will be available in 2024.
You should pay attention to several things before you start selling in the Hungarian marketplace. Doing that will allow you to better prepare for the launch of Allegro in Hungary and handle orders from Hungarian customers more efficiently.
Learn about the characteristics of the Hungarian marketplace
Buyers will pay in forints (HUF) for purchases made in the Hungarian marketplace
The prices in offers you share in the Hungarian marketplace must end with 0 or 5 HUF. That is why if you use the Price Converter, the amount the buyer will see and pay after the conversion will be rounded to a multiple of 5 HUF. This will bring prices in HUF in line with the market standard and denominations available for that currency.
Check how we round the prices during conversion.
If you set the price in HUF on your own, enter an amount ending with 0 or 5 HUF.
You may find the spelling of some Hungarian names unusual
The names of some Hungarian streets consist of one or two letters.
That is why you may encounter Hungarian first and last names written in different orders in various locations across Allegro. Pay particular attention to that matter while generating dispatch labels and sending orders to Hungary.
Hungarians use a different address format than Poles
The Polish address format:
House | Apartment |
---|---|
ul. Stefana Batorego 30 12-345 Warszawa POLSKA |
Apartment ul. Stefana Batorego 30/12 lub 30 m.12 12-345 Warszawa POLSKA |
The Hungarian address format:
House | Apartment |
---|---|
1234 Budapest Báthory István utca 30 MAGYARORSZÁG |
Apartment 1234 Budapest Báthory István utca 30, 2. emelet 2. ajtó MAGYARORSZÁG |
*utca = street *emelet = floor *ajtó = door
The numbering of apartments in Hungary sometimes starts from 1 on each floor. That is why some Hungarians add the floor and door number when providing the apartment address. If the numbering is standard, they provide only the apartment number.
Hungarians use a different date format
In Poland, we use the following date format: DD.MM.YYYY. Hungarians, however, use the reversed format: YYYY.MM.DD.
Pay particular attention to the date format while handling orders from Hungary. The Allegro tools use the DD.MM.YYYY date format. However, Hungarian buyers may use a different one while contacting you directly.

Make sure your products come with instructions and labels in Hungarian
Why?
The information you provide in the instructions and on the label is often essential to use the product. If you sell products in the Hungarian marketplace, buyers should be provided with such information also in their native language.
What you have to do
Before you send a completed order to a buyer from Hungary, make sure that all products come with instructions and labels in Hungarian — if they are necessary for a given product. You can also provide additional information to customers digitally, for example, in the offer or in an email you send after the purchase.
Adjust the terms of warranties, complaints, and returns
Why?
Before buying from you, customers should know whether and under what conditions they can return products and file complaints. It allows them to make an informed decision about the purchase. That is why you should provide access to returns terms and complaints in Hungarian in your offers.
What you have to do
- Adjust the returns terms so that they apply to all marketplaces you sell in. We will automatically translate them into other languages.
- Check whether your complaints terms and warranty information are valid for the Hungarian marketplace. If not — adapt them.
- Translate the adapted terms into Hungarian. You can use our automatic translations — all you need to do is review them before publishing.
Check whether specific legal obligations apply to you
Why?
Some countries — including Hungary — have local regulations, apart from the ones applicable in the entire EU.
What you have to do
Before introducing products on the Hungarian market, make sure you are listed in the required registers and your products are approved for sale in Hungary. Pay particular attention to regulations that concern waste, packaging, and recycling.
