Do you sell batteries or products containing batteries? From August 18, 2025, you will need to provide an EPR number
See what obligations the new law imposes on you.
On August 18, 2025, the EU Batteries Regulation will take effect. It will oblige sellers of batteries or products containing batteries, who have manufacturer status, to provide EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) registration numbers to e-commerce platforms such as Allegro.
That obligation stems from the EU requirements. We will adjust some features on our platform to help you run your business on Allegro in compliance with the law.
What it means for you
From August 18, it will be mandatory for you to complete the relevant data in the Sales Center if:
- you place certain types of batteries on the market (even a single unit)
- you have manufacturer status.
According to the law, you have manufacturer status if you place on the market — for the first time — batteries or products containing batteries that are:
- your own
- rebranded as your own brand
- imported
- or that you sell online to an EU country where you do not have a registered office.
This applies to each battery unit you place on the market.
What if you sell abroad
The regulation is in force throughout the European Union — which means it will apply to you if you sell on allegro.pl, allegro.cz, allegro.sk, and allegro.hu, and send your products to EU countries.
If you sell batteries in several marketplaces, you must have a separate EPR number for each country. If you sell exclusively in Poland, you only need an EPR number for Poland. If you also sell, for example, to Czechia, you need to provide an EPR number for Czechia as well. If you do not have a registered office in the country where you want to obtain an EPR number, you can use the services of an authorized representative.
What we will change
- Now: we are adding an obligatory Contains batteries parameter to the categories where you can sell products with batteries. You will need to select an appropriate value of that parameter if you sell batteries or products containing batteries. Download the list of categories in which the parameter is obligatory.
- From August 18, 2025: you will have to provide an EPR number on your Allegro account — for each country where you sell batteries or products containing batteries. You can do it in the Sales Center.
- If you are a seller from outside the EU: from August 18, you will provide EPR numbers from authorized representatives in each EU country where you sell batteries or products containing batteries.
How to obtain an EPR number
Each country establishes its own Extended Producer Responsibility registry for batteries. In order to obtain an EPR number, apply for registration in the country where you are selling. If you do not have a registered office in the country where you want to obtain a number, you can use the services of an authorized representative. They will represent your company with regard to the obligations that arise from the regulation.
The registration process can take several weeks, so it is a good idea to apply in advance.
