How to meet the requirements of the Batteries Regulation
The Batteries Regulation will take effect on August 18, 2025. Learn how we will adjust some features on our platform to help you sell on Allegro in compliance with the law.
The purpose of the Batteries Regulation is to reduce the environmental impact of batteries. It applies to the entire life cycle of a battery, including sales. The regulation will apply across the European Union — that means it will also affect sellers on allegro.pl, allegro.cz, allegro.sk, and allegro.hu, and sellers who send products to EU countries, such as Germany.
The EU officials are introducing this law gradually. From August 18, 2025, sellers of batteries or products containing batteries, who have manufacturer status, will need to provide EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) registration numbers to e-commerce platforms such as Allegro.
That obligation stems from the EU requirements. We will adjust some features on our platform to help you run your business on Allegro in compliance with the law.
We have added an obligatory parameter, Contains batteries, to the categories where you can sell products with batteries. You will select an appropriate value of that parameter if you sell batteries or products containing batteries. Download the list of categories in which the parameter is obligatory.
Check if you need to provide the EPR registration numbers
This law applies to you if:
- you have manufacturer status and
- you place the following on the market:
- portable batteries — including the following formats: 4.5 V (3R12), button cell, D, C, AA, AAA, AAAA, A23, 9 V (PP3)
- batteries for light means of transport (such as electric scooters)
- starting, lighting, and ignition batteries
- electric vehicle batteries
- industrial batteries
- and products containing the battery types listed above.
Check if you place batteries on the market
According to the regulation, you place batteries on the market when you make them available on the EU market for the first time.
Check if you have manufacturer status
You have manufacturer status if:
- you sell batteries under your own brand name and place them on the market in an EU country for the first time
- you place batteries from another country (inside or outside the EU) on the market in an EU country
- you sell batteries to an EU country other than the one where you have your registered office (inside or outside the EU).

Examples
- If you are a Polish entrepreneur and you buy products containing batteries from a Polish supplier to sell them on allegro.pl — you do not have manufacturer status. However, if you place products from a Chinese manufacturer (even a single battery or product containing batteries) on the Polish market for the first time — you are a manufacturer in the eyes of the law and you need to provide an EPR number to Allegro.
- If you are a Polish entrepreneur and place products on the Czech market — you have manufacturer status. In this case, you sell products to a country other than the one where you have your registered office, and you place batteries (even a single battery or product containing batteries) on a European market for the first time.
- If you are a Chinese entrepreneur and sell your products on allegro.hu — you have manufacturer status. In this case, you are a seller based outside the EU and you place batteries (even a single battery or product containing batteries) on a European market for the first time.
How to obtain an EPR number
Each country establishes its own registration system within the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for batteries. Some countries have separate registries for batteries, while others include battery registration as a separate category or track in broader EPR registries containing multiple product types. You will obtain an EPR number when you register in the country where you are selling.
If you do not have a registered office in the country where you want to obtain a number, you can use the services of an authorized representative. They will represent your company with regard to the obligations that arise from the regulation.
The registration process can take several weeks, so it is a good idea to apply in advance.
If you sell batteries in several marketplaces — for example, in Poland, Czechia, Slovakia, and Hungary — you need a separate EPR number for each country. If you sell exclusively in Poland, you only need an EPR number for Poland. If you also sell, for example, to Czechia, you need to provide an EPR number for Czechia as well.
