Offer translation
Offer translations – frequently asked questions
At Allegro, we give you control over the language versions you want to publish your Offers in. Thanks to this, you can also reach foreign-speaking customers more easily. Below you will find the most frequently asked questions about translating offers, along with the answers to them.
Why are you translating my offers?
Allegro is browsed not only by Polish-speaking customers who order items with delivery within Poland. It is also: customers from abroad, m.in buyer to Germany, the Czech Republic or France, customers who live in Poland but do not speak Polish.
We want Allegro to be a place where they can easily and safely shop online. That is why we show them the Offers in the language they indicate in their account settings.
Can I switch the source language when listing an offer?
The current listing form does not support any other source language than Polish. But we’re working on a new one that will allow you to switch it to English. That way you can provide us with an English title and description as a source and we’ll create other language versions based on that.
Do you translate all offers into each language?
Not. To see the languages we support, go to the Language Settings in your account.
The fact that we offer our clients other language versions of Allegro does not mean, however, that we automatically translate absolutely all offers into each language. In the case of:
We translate English only when you, as a seller , offer delivery outside of Poland. If you want to display them also to people from Poland who do not speak Polish and need the English version - add your own translation of this Offers.
In Ukrainian, we actually translate all offers, but only their titles. The descriptions are still displayed in Polish. If you want to add a description in Ukrainian or simply replace the title - add your own translation of this Offers.
We translate the Czech language only for those Offers where you, as a seller , offer delivery to the Czech Republic. If you want to show your Offers also to people from Poland who do not speak only Czech - add your own translation of this Offers.
How can I check if you translate my offer to foreign clients automatically?
More generally, we answer this question in the section "Do you translate all offers into each language". However, if you are unsure about a specific Offers, you can check it out. Go to the My Assortment tab and next to the selected offer, click the More> button. In the side panel on the right side that we expand, you will see the "Translations" section - you can find out here whether we are displaying automatic translations for a given language version, or those provided by you.
If you click [Edit], you can create your own translations for the Offers.
What does "offers supplement language" mean
When you list your offer, you complete its title and description. This is the language for completing the Offers - that is, the "original", which we then display translated in different language versions.
Can I show other photos in the offer in English or Czech than in the Polish version?
We leave the photo gallery the same as in the original version.
As for the description - if you included photos in the Polish description, you can replace them with any photos from the gallery, in any order. If you did not add any photos in the original description, unfortunately you will not add them in the translations.
What happens if I add my own translation of the Offers and then update the Polish version?
Then we will continue to display the old translation version to foreign-language customers and the Polish version that you updated to Polish customers. If you update your Offers frequently, consider going back to automatic translations. These update each time you change the content of your Offers.
How do I get back to automatic translations?
Go to the My Assortment tab, select the offer you want to change and click More> . In the side pane on the right that we will expand, in the "Translations" section, click "Edit".
Next to the language for which you want to revert to automatic translation, you will find an "Edit" button. Click on it.
In the new window, select "Translate automatically". Attention! You will then irretrievably delete your own translation.
Managing your own offer translations
You can add your own translations of the product description or edit our automatic translations.
Currently, we use automatic translation to translate your product descriptions to:
- Polish
- Czech — if you dispatch parcels to Czechia
- Slovak — if you dispatch parcels to Slovakia
- Hungarian — if you dispatch parcels to Hungary
- Ukrainian — only the title, regardless of the delivery options you offer.
In the Translations section, you can add your own translations from English to:
- Polish
- Czech
- Slovak
- Hungarian
- Ukrainian — the title and the product description.
How to use the Translations section
You can access the Translations section from the My Assortment tab. There, you can:
- add or edit your own translations
- restore automatic translations
- compare different translations
- compare translations with source texts — for example, in English.
You can also manage translations through the listing form and Allegro API.
Translating offers in foreign marketplaces
Each offer you want to share in foreign marketplaces should have the proper language version. You can easily use the automatic translation option.
How it works
When you share your offer in a foreign marketplace, we check whether it is translated into the language of the selected marketplace. If not, we add the automatic translation. That way foreign customers will understand your offer description.
You can also edit the automatic translation or enter your own.
How else you can use the translation option
- The buyer sent you a message in a language you do not know? You can translate it into the language you use on Allegro in the Message Center.
- Make shopping easier for buyers from abroad and add your own or automatic translation of the warranty and the complaints terms.
Adding a new translation in the My Assortment tab
You can add translations in active, expired, and draft offers. To add a new translation:
- Go to the My Assortment tab. In the case of an active offer — click [more]. Next, click [edit] in the panel we will display on the right, in the Translations section. We will redirect you to the Translations panel.
In this panel, you can also check what kind of translations and to which languages you have already provided for the selected offer.
If you want to add a translation to a draft offer, hover over the three dots and select Translate offer from the menu. We will redirect you to the translation list of a given offer.
You can also add product images to your translation. Those images can be different than in the original offer — for example, showing the product from a different perspective. You can add images in a different order than in the original offer. However, you can add an image only if it had been added to the original offer gallery.
Adding a new translation in the listing form
- Click [add your own translation] in the Product description section. There, you can translate the title and description to Czech, Slovak, Hungarian, Polish, and Ukrainian.
- Enter the title, description, and click [save translation].
How to translate an extensive offer description:
- First, add images.
- Then, determine the layout of the text and images.
- Finally, add your own translation.
Editing translations
To edit a translation:
- Click [edit] in the translations list of a given offer, next to the language version you want to correct.
- Make changes — edit your own translation or restore an automatic one. You can do it with the [automatic translation] button.
- When you finish editing, click [save].
Comparing the translation with the original text
To compare the translation:
- Click [compare] on the translations list of a given offer, next to the translation you want to compare.
- Select the language version you want to compare the translation with. If you want to compare the translation in Czech, Slovak, Hungarian, or Ukrainian, you can choose to compare the text with the Polish or English version. In the case of the Polish translation, you can compare it only with the English version.
- If you have to make changes to the translation, you can do it right away, without going to the translation edition screen.
- When you enter the changes to the translation, click [save].
Automatic translation of offers
If you do not add your own translation, we will automatically translate:
- the offer title and description to Polish
- the offer title to Ukrainian
- the offer title and description to Czech — if you enable dispatch to Czechia in your offer
- the offer title and description to Slovak — if you enable dispatch to Slovakia in your offer
- the offer title and description to Hungarian — if you enable dispatch to Hungary in your offer.
We will not automatically translate the offers you list in the categories excluded from translation (the file is available only in Polish).
How to translate offer title and description into English
If you offer international delivery, we will automatically translate your offers into English. See what you can do to make these translations of the best quality possible.
We translate all active offers where you enable international delivery outside Poland into English automatically. You do not need to do anything for your offers to be translated from Polish into English. It also does not matter if you offer your own delivery option or you ship items with Allegro Standard.
We understand that machine translation is imperfect. That is why we have some tips and tricks for you on what you can do to ensure the translation is as good as it gets.
Make sure the offer title and description does not contain mistakes
- Do not use slang or acronyms.
- Check the offer for typos and mistakes before you list it.
Avoid ambiguity
Write the offer title and description in such a way that they describe precisely what you want to sell. Consider adding words or phrases that determine the product type. This way, you have a higher chance to have your offer translated correctly.
Check if your offers have been translated correctly
You can always check if the machine translation of your offers is correct. To do it, change the language on your account into English and open your offer. If you spot a mistake:
- try to edit the Polish contents in such a way that would result in removing mistakes from translations
- click [contact us] under this article to report a mistake in the translation of your offer.
