What a warranty is
Warranty is a voluntary statement of the warrantor to the buyer. In that statement, the warrantor specifies their obligations and the buyer's rights in cases where the sold product does not have the features listed in the statement. The warrantor's obligations may include, for example: refunding the buyer for the purchase, exchanging or repairing products, or other services.
Who a warrantor is
Any entity may be a warrantor. Typically, it is the manufacturer or the seller. However, it may also be the importer or the distributor.
How a warranty works
To grant a warranty, you have to provide a warranty statement — for example, in the offer description, on the product packaging, in the form of a document attached to the product, or in the product advertisement, as long as the statement specifies warrantor's obligations. If the type of information allows it — the warranty statement can have a commonly comprehensible graphic form. The buyer may request that the warrantor provides the warranty statement on paper or other durable medium — the warranty document.
On Allegro, you can save the warranty (the warranty statement) in the Warranty Information tab. Next, you can add the saved warranty to your offer — buyers will see it in the Warranty section. If you share a given offer in the foreign marketplace and add a translation of the warranty terms into the language that applies in that marketplace — we will display it to buyers from that marketplace instead of the original language version.
Check how to save the warranty in the tab and how to add it to the offer.
What the warranty statement has to include
The warrantor decides whether they grant a warranty for the product. The warrantor also states the warranty content and range, for example:
- the number of repairs
- the conditions for exchanging the product for a new one
- the service center addresses.
The warranty statement has to include:
- an explicit statement that in case the goods do not conform with the contract, the buyer is legally entitled to remedies from and at the expense of the seller, and that the warranty does not affect these remedies
- the name and address of the warrantor
- information what the buyer has to do to benefit from the warranty
- indication of the goods the warranty applies to
- warranty conditions — for example, duration and territorial scope of the warranty.
In the warranty statement you can also:
- add more information useful to the customer — for example:
- whom and how they should contact to benefit from the warranty
- what documents they need to benefit from the warranty
- when the warranty period begins
- specify a different warranty period for entrepreneurs and for consumers
- add a translation of the warranty statement
- attach PDF files — for example, the warranty document (the warranty card).
The more useful information you provide, the less additional questions you get from the customers and the easier it is for them to benefit from the warranty.
The content of the warranty (the statement) should be clear and understandable. If a product has been placed on the Polish market, the warranty statement should be in Polish. The requirement to use the Polish language does not apply to proper names, trademarks, trade names, designation of origin of the goods, as well as common scientific and technical terminology.
If no other time period is specified, the warranty period is 2 years, starting from the date the goods were issued to the buyer.
Seller's warranty (commercial warranty) is mandatory for selected products in Hungary
If you sell specific products on the Hungarian market and their prices exceed 10,000 HUF — as per Hungarian law, you have to grant the buyer the so-called commercial warranty. That is why, in some offers you share on allegro.hu, we will show buyers the length of the warranty as specified in the Hungarian law. Learn more.
How to save the warranty in the tab
You can save the warranty statement in the Warranty Information tab. In the tab, you can add multiple warranties — for example, for different product groups.
How to add a new warranty:
- Go to the tab and click [add warranty information] — we will redirect you to the Warranty details page.
- Give a name to the new warranty information — only you will see the name. It will make it easier for you to choose the right warranty while listing or editing an offer.
- Choose the warranty type — manufacturer/distributor or seller, and the warranty period — for a specified number of months or a lifetime warranty.
- In the Warranty Information field describe all warranty conditions.
- When your statement is ready, click [save].
If you sell on allegro.hu — add the information about warranty types in Hungarian
Buyers from Hungary should also see in your offers the information about warranty types available for them.
If you do not want to create your own text in Hungarian, you can use the Hungarian Government Regulation No. 45/2014. (II. 26.) — specifically Appendix No. 3 to that regulation (its full name in Hungarian is: 3. melléklet a 45/2014. (II. 26.) Korm. rendelethez). It contains important information about the mandatory buyer's rights: statutory warranty, commercial warranty, and manufacturer warranty.
All you need to do is create a Hungarian translation of your warranty terms in the Warranty Information tab and add the content of the attachment in Hungarian in the Warranty Information (optional) section.
When you save the warranty information, you can add it to select offers.
How to add a translation of a saved warranty
The translation will make it easier for your customers who do not speak Polish to buy products, but it will also boost your sales.
You can add a translation in Warranty details. You can add your own or automatic translation in the following languages:
- Polish
- English
- Czech
- Ukrainian
- Slovak
- Hungarian.
To add the translation of warranty conditions:
- Go to the Warranty Information tab and click [edit] next to the warranty for which you want to add translation. We will redirect you to the page with the details of a selected warranty.
- Under the Warranty information field you will find the translation tool — click [change language] and select the original language of the warranty.
- Then, click [add translation] next to the language to which you want to translate the warranty saved in the tab. If the original language is Polish, you can translate the text to: English, Czech, Ukrainian, Slovak, and Hungarian.
- Add your own or automatic translation. Before you save it, make sure it is correct — automatic translations may contain errors. You can make changes to the automatic translation.
- Click [confirm] to confirm the added translation, and [save] to save changes in the warranty details.
You can also add attachments in PDF format, in several languages, to the saved warranty. You can attach a maximum of 6 files in the following languages: Polish, English, Czech, Ukrainian, Slovak, and Hungarian.
How to add saved warranty information to the offer
There are two ways to add warranty information:
In the listing form
- In the Offer terms section — expand the Warranty section
- Select the warranty template you want to add to the offer. Done!
If you want to create a new template, click Add warranty information. We will redirect you to the tab where you can do it.
In the My Assortment tab
- Check the offers to which you want to add warranty information
- On the green bar click [edit], and then [warranty information]
- Select the information and click [save].
