How to prepare products for shipment to the Allegro Warehouse
Before you pack the products for shipment, check if they are properly labeled and secured.
Before you pack products for shipment, make sure they are properly labeled and secured.
Unit packaging
Products you ship to the Allegro Warehouse must come in the original and sealed packaging that protects from:
- spilling or leaking
- having free access to its content
- mechanical damage
- dirt.
In addition, when you ship to the Allegro Warehouse products whose packaging is the integral part (for example, jewelry in decorative packaging) — secure it as well. You can use, for example:
- shrink wrap
- foil bags sealed with barcode labels
- seals.
Protective packaging may affect product dimensions
If you ship to the warehouse a product in unit packaging and additional protective packaging (for example, in a plastic bag), we will not unpack it before measuring. We will measure it in the packaging and consider those dimensions valid. This may make the dimensions of such a product larger enough to qualify it for a different price category. Learn more about measuring products.
You can conditionally ship to the Allegro Warehouse lithium batteries and devices containing lithium batteries. Before you do it, pack them and label correctly.
Use packaging that secures them completely (this does not apply to batteries placed in devices). Then, put them in a strong and rigid bulk packaging.
Both batteries and devices containing batteries should be packed in a packaging that withstands a fall from the height of 1.2 m (in any position) — without damage, battery displacement, and releasing content.
Make sure that the weight of batteries with packaging does not exceed 30 kg (this does not apply to batteries placed in devices).
If you ship devices containing batteries, secure them in a way that prevents turning on during transport.
Secure batteries against short circuits or possible contact with electrically conductive material (if it will be shipped in the same packaging). This applies particularly to batteries that were not pre-packed — pack them yourself, for example, in a foil bag.
Place an appropriate sticker on each packaging. In the place marked with:
- asterisk — put the UN number corresponding to the batteries in the packaging. You can check it in the table below.
- double asterisk — put a phone number where you can get more information if there is an emergency situation while shipping goods.
UN number | name and description |
---|---|
UN 3090 | name and description metallic lithium batteries |
UN 3091 | name and description metallic lithium batteries in devices or metallic lithium batteries packed together with devices |
UN No. 3480 | name and description lithium-ion batteries/rechargable batteries (including the lithium-ion polymer batteries) |
UN No. 3481 | name and description lithium-ion batteries/rechargable batteries in devices or lithium-ion batteries/rechargable batteries packed together with devices (including lithium-ion polymer batteries) |
- Required dimensions of the sticker: 100 X 100 mm. If the packaging is smaller, the dimensions of the sticker should be no less than 100 mm x 70 mm (width x height).
- If you ship batteries or devices containing batteries in bulk packaging or on pallets, make sure that stickers are visible. If it is not possible, place the sticker also on the bulk packaging and mark it with the sign: BULK PACKAGING (letters should not be smaller than 12 mm).
When you do not have to place a sticker on the packaging"
- when the packaging (unit packaging or bulk packaging) contains only devices with button batteries (including printed circuit boards)
- when the parcel consists of a maximum of 2 packagings, each containing no more than 4 cells or 2 batteries in a device.
Also, make sure that the transport document contains the following entry: Special provision 188. You do not have to do this if you do not need to place any stickers on packagings (in situations described above).

- Pack textile products — which are products made, for example, of woven or knitted fabric — in transparent polyethylene bags or foil. Do it even if products are already in original, textile packagings.
- Pack leather products into cartons.
- Do not ship clothes on hangers to the Allegro Warehouse. You can only ship products with mini hangers — hangers that are a part of the packaging.
- We handle products with a minimum shelf life of no less than 6 months from the date of acceptance to the Allegro Warehouse.
- If a product has a specified expiration date, it should be visible on the product or the unit packaging. If it is not visible — we will not accept the product for storage.
- Pack products with the same expiration date and batch number into one carton. Do not pack products with different expiration dates and batch numbers into one carton.
- If your products expire in less than 60 days — we will send them back to you at your cost. In addition — other of your products stored in our warehouse are unfit for sale — we will send them all back to you in a single shipment.
EAN (GTIN) code
GTIN is an EAN or other code — learn more about it in this article. With that code we can identify products you ship to the Allegro Warehouse. That is why:
- the code should be valid and come from a legal source Learn how to check the validity of EAN below
- each of your products should be marked with this code or have a label with this code. If a product comes in a protective packaging, the EAN (GTIN) code should also be placed on it.
- the code should be visible, clear, and scannable. It is best to place it on a flat surface — not on the edges and folds
- each of your products should be marked with only one code. If a given product has additional codes, cover them or black them out with a marker.
How to check the validity of the EAN (GTIN) code
Go to the GS1 Poland or the GS1 Global website and enter the EAN (GTIN) code provided on the product. That way you can check whether this EAN (GTIN) code has been registered and whether it really corresponds to a given product. You can determine it, for example, based on the manufacturer's name assigned to the EAN (GTIN) code in the GS1 database.
Check whether the EAN (GTIN) code you provide matches the EAN (GTIN) code encrypted as a barcode on the item. To do that, scan the item barcode.
The product EAN (GTIN) code should not begin with:
- 020–029, 040–049, or 200–299 — EAN (GTIN) codes that begin with those digits are not used on products intended for sale
- 950, 951, or 960–969 — EAN (GTIN) codes that begin with those digits are used only by GS1
- 980 — EAN (GTIN) codes that begin with those digits are used for return receipts
- 981–984 or 990–999 — EAN (GTIN) codes that begin with those digits are used for coupons.
- If you product is not a book, a magazine, or a periodical, make sure that it is not marked with ISSN or ISBN — GTINs that begin with: 978, 979, or 980.

Other numbers that can be found on a product
Some products can be marked with codes and numbers other that the EAN (GTIN) code — for example, with the serial number or the expiration date. If the product you ship to the warehouse is marked with at least one of them, we will check it on accepting the product for storage.
That is why — before you pack your products for shipment — make sure that:
- serial numbers or expiration dates are unambiguous and easy to check — they cannot be illegible
- serial numbers or expiration dates have the correct format — check it in the table below
- the product is not marked with multiple numbers of the same type — for example, two serial numbers or two expiration dates.
Marking type | Product description | Guidelines |
---|---|---|
Serial number | Product description SN, S / N, Serial number, Serial No |
Guidelines Serial number (if provided) should be placed on the unit packaging. |
Expiration date | Product description BB, BBE, Best before, Best Before End, EXP, Expiration Date, Expiry Date, E, Best-by |
Guidelines Expiration date (if provided) should be placed on the unit packaging in one of the 3 formats : month/year or day/month/year, or month/day/year. Additionally, the expiration date cannot be provided in the form of a pictogram, nor can it be a resultant value of the production date and shelf life specified on the label. |
How to pack products for shipment
- Place all products in cartons. Use durable cartons that will not tear or brake.
- Pack products in a way that will prevent them from moving inside the carton. Fill any remaining empty space in the carton. You can, for example, use air cushions, bubble wrap, sheets of paper, or corrugated cardboard. If you pack small items in a large carton, make sure that objects you used to fill empty spaces do not hinder the unpacking and identification of items.
- Seal every carton — you can, for example, use a tape or a stapler.
- If you ship cartons to the Allegro Warehouse via a courier company, mark them according to their requirements.
- If you ship your products in recycled cartons, remove any old labels and stickers or black them out with a marker.
- Do not cover the cartons completely with tape and do no wrap them with stretch foil. You can wrap cartons with stretch foil only if you place them on a pallet collectively.
How to place labels correctly
When you create an ASN for a shipment in boxes or pallets you can decide — place labels on your own, or let us do it for you. If you want to place the One Fulfillment labels on your own — follow the steps below.
- The label should be legible — do not add or cross anything out. If the information on the label is not legible — generate and print it out again.
- Place labels on the side of the carton. If possible, place them on a flat surface — not at the joint of the box flaps.
- If you plan to place the cartons on a pallet, then — if possible — place the label in a way it can be scanned without unloading the pallet.
If you place the label in an incorrect place or if the label gets damaged in transport, we may print out and place a new label on accepting your shipment for storage at the warehouse. In that case, we will charge an additional fee — in accordance with the price list.
Frequently Asked Questions
Generate and print out the labels again. If you make any changes to the content of a given carton, you need to generate new labels — corresponding to the actual content. If you fail to do so — it will take us longer to accept your products or we will simply reject them. In that case, we will ship them back to you at your expense.
