Additional parcel fees — information for sellers
See what additional fees we can charge you based on information from the carriers.
What a non-standard parcel is
We may charge you additional fees if the carrier classifies your parcel as non-standard. Non-standard parcels are the parcels that, for example:
- exceed the maximum dimensions or weight for parcels provided by the carrier, and that are sorted automatically
- are packed in a way that prevents or hinders automated sorting — for example, in a poly mailer or black stretch wrap
- have an unevenly distributed center of gravity — for example, bottles containing a large amount of liquid
- come in an irregular shape — for example, they are cylindrical, round, or have protruding elements
- come in packaging other than a regular rectangular cardboard box
- contain fragile products that are packed without proper cushioning, in packaging not suited to their weight, or require upright transport
- are marked with special handling labels, such as: 'fragile,' 'upright/this side up,' 'caution,' or 'glass'
- contain liquids in containers, such as barrels, canisters, buckets, or cans
- contain objects or devices that generate a magnetic field
- consist of two or more separate parts joined together (for example, using tape, stretch wrap, string, or ties) in a way that disrupts the regular shape
- contain tires not packed according to the guidelines.
The type of product itself does not mean that the parcel is non-standard. It is determined by its weight, size, packaging method, or shape.

How you can avoid a surcharge
To avoid an additional fee:
- pack the parcel correctly
- pack products that come in irregular shapes into a rectangular cardboard box that does not exceed the carrier's maximum dimensions
- thickness and type of cardboard, filling, and protection must be adjusted to the product you want to dispatch — consider its dimensions, shape, weight, and fragility
- place the shipping label on the biggest side of the parcel so that it fully visible and not folded.
The Allegro Packaging Standard
The Standard describes how to pack a parcel to reduce the risk of being charged additional fees by the carrier. Learn more about the Allegro Packaging Standard.
How to pack problematic products — practical tips
Certain products particularly require proper packaging. Those are, for example:
- tires
- liquids
- glass products
- paints
- pet food and cat litter
- products of collector's value, like Legos. See how to properly and securely pack such orders to avoid additional fees.
How to pack tires
Not all carriers that operate within Allegro Delivery deliver particular products. You can dispatch tires with:
- DPD
- InPost. Keep reading to learn how to do that with the selected carrier.
If you dispatch with DPD
Tires:
- pack them seperately
- wrap them with tape to which you will stick the label. Place the label so that:
- the barcode is on the tire shoulder
- it is not covered by the tape
- it is not wrinkled — this particularly applies to the barcode surface.
If you dispatch with InPost
- You can dispatch tires with the maximum size of 21 inches.
- Tires should be packed in foil or other packaging material.
- You can dispatch 2 tires in a single parcel if they do not exceed 15 inches and do not come with rims. Pack them in a way that prevents separating them, for example, wrap them together with a foil. You can find detailed information on InPost rules for transport and packing parcels in this file.
How to pack liquids
- Protect them from spilling — wrap the bottle cap with tape or foil.
- Protect them against cracking or breaking — use appropriate parcel filler to prevent the liquid container from cracking or breaking.
- Make sure you are allowed to ship a particular substance — for the ADR products, follow the applicable legal regulations. Specific ADR provisions are included in chapter 3.3 of the ADR agreement (available in Polish) and apply to selected chemical substances and hazardous materials. Thanks to them, you will know whether a product marked with a specific UN number requires, for example, special shipment labeling, or if it can be exempted from the ADR regulations.
- Ensure all packaging is leak-proof before dispatch — glass bottles containing liquids should be placed in sealed protective containers made of durable, cushioning material.
- Dispatch liquids with the maximum capacity of 5 liters per parcel.
How to pack paints
- Double-secure the paint from leaking.
- Seal the paint lid — for example, by taping it or wrapping it with tape or film.
- Pack the secured product in a thick, strong cardboard box — remember to add extra filler.

How to pack glass containers and perishable products
- We recommend applying special labels to the outer packaging: 'do not throw,' 'this way up,' or 'glass'. This may involve additional fees.
- Use additional protection, such as crumpled paper, to secure and wrap your product.
- If you find it necessary — pack the product in an additional cardboard box.
- If you are dispatching more than one glass object in a single parcel — pack every piece separately.
- If you are shipping a glass bottle — pack it in a leak-proof bag or a zip-lock bag and wrap it with additional protection. When shipping several glass items in one parcel, it is best to use cardboard dividers to prevent them from touching and to ensure each item remains stable inside the packaging.
- Place the heavier glass at the bottom of the parcel, and the lighter, more fragile glass — on the top of the parcel.
How to pack heavy granular materials — like pet food, cat litter, or soil
- Do not wrap product's like pet food, cat litter, or soil using only stretch wrap — this type of protection is easily damaged. If you use stretch wrap, it may result in additional fees.
- Pack the product in a rectangular cardboard box.
- For such products, use high-grammage double-wall boxes (BC flute) to prevent the bottom from rupturing.
- Reinforce and further secure the bottom of the box with paper or plastic tape.
How to pack home electronics and household appliances
For shipping electronics and household appliances, carriers recommend using the packaging provided by the manufacturer, which is specifically designed for the product and reinforced with additional protection. We also recommend hiding the contents of the package under neutral packaging. This will increase the security of your parcel during transit.
- Pack the secured product in a thick, strong cardboard box — remember to add extra filler.
- We recommend applying special labels to the outer packaging: 'do not throw,' 'this way up,' or 'glass' or others according to the manufacturer's recommendations. This may involve additional fees.
- Provide extra reinforcement and rigidity to all corners and edges of the package, which are most vulnerable to damage.
