Estimated delivery time
The estimated delivery time informs buyers when they can expect to receive their order. Find out where we display this information and what affects it.
We calculate the estimated delivery time based on available data. The actual delivery time may differ because our calculations cannot account for, for example:
- random events — like severe weather conditions or traffic accidents
- unplanned delays on the part of sellers — like power or internet outages
- unplanned delays on the part of carriers — like breakdowns in sorting centers.
Where buyers can see the estimated delivery time
- Before the purchase:
- on the product list
- in offers, in the recommendation sections
- on the offer page — both on the main offer page and in the drop-down Delivery section.
- During the purchase:
- in the delivery and payment form
- on the thank you page.
- After the purchase:
- in the Purchase History tab — in the order details
- in the My Parcels tab — when the parcel is on its way.
Where to check the estimated delivery time for an order
You can check the estimated delivery time displayed to the buyer at the moment of purchase, and the actual delivery time:
- in the Orders tab. All you need to do is go to a given order and check the Delivery section.
- in the delivery efficiency report, in the Delivery deadline (On-time dispatch) column — learn more.
How we display the estimated delivery time
We display the estimated delivery time in every offer:
- on the main offer page — here, buyers can see the estimated delivery time (the fastest or the optimal one) for the selected option
- in the delivery details – here, buyers can check the estimated delivery time for all options you enabled for a given offer. It may differ slightly between delivery options.
As a rule, we display the fastest estimated delivery time on the main offer page. However, if your offer does not have the Smart! badge (the customer pays for delivery), on the main offer page, we display the estimated delivery time for the option that is optimal in terms of time and delivery cost. This may mean that we will not show the fastest estimated delivery time in this offer.
Example
You provide two next-day delivery options in your offer:
- delivery tomorrow — buy before 13:00 (for free, within Smart!)
- delivery tomorrow — buy before 18:00 (for 15 PLN).
In that case, we display the following in your offer:
- until 1 p.m: delivery tomorrow — buy before 13:00
- from 1:01 p.m: delivery tomorrow — buy before 18:00.
This way, buyers always see in your offer the estimated delivery time for the option that is the cheapest and the fastest.
How we calculate the estimated delivery time
The estimated delivery time is the sum of the dispatch time and the transit time.
| What we calculate | When we start calculation | Until when we calculate |
|---|---|---|
| Dispatch time | When we start calculation for orders paid in advance — from the payment for purchases or for orders with payment on delivery — from the moment an order is placed |
Until when we calculate until the courier scans the parcel* |
| Shipping time | When we start calculation from the moment the courier scans the parcel* |
Until when we calculate until the first delivery attempt or until the moment the parcel is placed at a pick-up point / parcel locker |
- Exception: The Poczta Polska parcels dispatched at the carrier's facility. We consider such parcels dispatched when a facility employee accepts them.
- You specify the dispatch time yourself when listing an offer.
- You can check the current shipping time on this page.
We calculate the estimated delivery time based on one of three sources:
- same-day and next-day dispatch times — if you have set them and meet the conditions for displaying them
- a machine learning-powered algorithm
- your dispatch declaration in the offer — the number of days within which you declare to dispatch the order from the offer.
The settings on your account determine which source we will use to calculate the estimated delivery time. The image below explains the details.
Same-day dispatch times
The same-day dispatch times are the hours by which buyers can place and pay for orders, and you dispatch them on the very day of purchase. You set these hours yourself, and they apply to offers with same-day or 1-day dispatch. Learn more about the same-day dispatch times.
If you have same-day dispatch times set and meet all the conditions — we display the estimated delivery time in your offers based on them. This means that same-day dispatch times give you full control over what estimated delivery time buyers see.
How it works
Usually, based on same-day dispatch times, we display information about an estimated delivery tomorrow or day after tomorrow.
In some cases, based on same-day dispatch times, we may also display the information:
- about the estimated delivery on a specific day of the week — for example: delivery on Monday — buy by XX:XX. This results from the settings on your account (it depends, among other things, on whether you also have same-day dispatch times set for Saturday and Sunday), as well as holidays and non-working days (when deliveries are not fulfilled).
- delivery the day after tomorrow — buy by XX:XX — for example, when the transit time on the carrier's side is longer than 1 day.
What this means for you
If you want to have full control over the estimated delivery time, set same-day dispatch times for all carriers whose delivery options you provide in your offers. Also, ensure you meet the conditions based on which we can display these times. If you do not do this — we will display the estimated delivery time in your offers based on our algorithm. This may result in us still displaying information about delivery tomorrow in your offers even after the same-day dispatch time has passed.
Example
- For ORLEN Paczka, you have set 2:00 p.m. as the same-day dispatch time, and you meet the conditions for us to display it.
- Based on your previous dispatches, we know that you dispatch orders on the same day if buyers choose the Allegro One option and pay for them by 3:00 p.m.
In this case, in your offer:
- until 2:00 p.m., we will display: delivery tomorrow — buy before 14:00
- from 2:01 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., we will display: delivery tomorrow
- from 3:01 p.m. to 0:00 a.m., we will display: delivery day after tomorrow.
Machine learning-based algorithm
We will display the estimated delivery time in your offers based on our algorithm's calculations if:
- you have not set the same-day dispatch times
- you have set the same-day dispatch times, but you do not meet the conditions to display them
- you declare dispatch within 2 or 3 days in your offers.
How it works
Using the algorithm, we analyze data including:
- the time and day of the week the order was placed
- the dispatch declaration in the offer
- the actual date and time of order dispatch
- the carrier fulfilling the order
- the same-day dispatch times — we check if you have set them and whether they are displayed in your offers
- the country of dispatch and the country of delivery.
We regularly optimize its performance based on the latest data. We rely on historical data covering approximately one month. This is necessary to gather reliable information about parcels handed over to carriers. We exclude non-working days and public holidays from this data. This allows us to forecast delivery times on business days more accurately. However, when non-standard periods approach, such as Christmas, approach — we change the data scope to even better adjust the estimated delivery time to the given moment of the year. This means that the number of days on which we base the calculation of the estimated delivery time is variable.
What this means for you
The estimated delivery time calculated by our algorithm is mainly based on actual dispatch data – not your declarations. It means that if:
- you dispatch orders faster than declared — we may display an earlier estimated delivery time in your offers than your declaration indicates. You can disable this option — learn more.
- you dispatch orders later than declared — we may display a later estimated delivery time in your offers.
Dispatch declaration in offers
In offers with a dispatch time longer than 3 days, the estimated delivery time is the sum of the dispatch declaration and the carrier's shipping time.
For such offers, we may display the estimated delivery time in the format of:
- a time period — like: Estimated delivery Tue. 7 Jul. — Wed. 8 July
- a precise date — like: Estimated delivery Wed. July 8
- number of days — like: Estimated delivery in 14 days.
In my offer, I declare dispatch within two days. Despite this, you display an estimated delivery time for the next day. Why?
This results from your shipping statistics — apparently, despite the two-day dispatch declaration, you dispatch a large part of the orders from this offer on the day of purchase. In such cases, we use our algorithm to calculate an estimated next-day delivery time for this offer.
If you do not want us to show an estimated delivery time faster than your shipping declaration in your offers, you can temporarily disable this option. To do that, use the [disable deliveries faster than my declaration] button in the Delivery efficiency tab — learn more.
Why do you display information about same-day delivery in some offers?
I have set 3:00 p.m. as the same-day dispatch time. Why do you still display information about delivery tomorrow in my offers after 3:00 p.m?
Two factors influence this:
- you do not have same-day shipping hours set and displayed for all carriers whose delivery options you provide in this offer. Therefore, if we do not display these hours for some carriers, we use our algorithm to calculate the estimated delivery time for the delivery options they carry out.
- we calculate the estimated delivery time based on your shipping data using our algorithm. Therefore, if you manage to dispatch orders for a given carrier even after 3:00 p.m., we will continue to display information about delivery tomorrow after this hour.
Does the estimated delivery time you display in my offers affect my results in the My Sales Quality dashboard?
The estimated delivery time can affect your scores in the On-time dispatch metric.
In this metric, we grant points for orders that are:
- dispatched on time, according to the declaration in offer
or
- delivered no later than on the estimated day of delivery that the buyer sees in the offer at the moment of purchase.
To get points in this metric, it is enough to meet one of these conditions — regarding on-time dispatch or on-time delivery. So, if you manage to dispatch the order according to the declaration, the estimated delivery time no longer matters.
I have set the same-day dispatch time, but you do not display it in my offers. Why?
It is probably because you do not meet all the conditions based on which we can display that time in the offers. It may be that:
- the declared dispatch time you have set is too long
- you do not meet the condition related to the percentage of orders that have been placed by a given hour and dispatched on the day of purchase
- you have fewer than 10 orders for a given carrier.
You can find information about all the conditions in our article.
What can I do to make the estimated delivery time in my offers as precise as possible?
- Set the dispatch time in your offers according to when you actually dispatch orders — this way your declarations will be consistent with our data. Additionally, if:
- you dispatch products from offers at different times — group the offers and set a realistic dispatch time for each group
- you expect delays — extend the dispatch declaration so that your customers know they might wait a little longer for their orders.
- Use the services of trusted carriers that are integrated with us. It will allow you to keep track of transit time and work with courier companies that deliver parcels on time.
- Make sure you dispatch orders correctly. Since we can track your parcels, we are able to collect data on their timely delivery.
If you want to have full control over the estimated delivery time, set same-day dispatch time for all the carriers whose services you use. Also, make sure that:
- the hours are adapted to your work schedule and you will manage to prepare parcels and hand them over to courier on the day of purchase
- you meet all the conditions for us to display these times in your offer.
I am experiencing dispatch delays. What can I do to ensure that the estimated delivery times displayed in my offers take those delays into account?
- Extend the dispatch time you declare in your offers. You can change it at any time: in a single offer or in multiple offers at once. We will update it within an hour.
- Disable deliveries faster than your declaration — you can do it in the Delivery Efficiency tab.
Additionally, if you have set the same-day dispatch times, you can change them to earlier hours. See how to do that.
In the Delivery section of my offer page, you display information that I dispatch orders within 1 day. Despite that, the estimated delivery time is 8 days. How is that possible?
In the Delivery section, we display information about the declared dispatch time of the product from the offer — in your case, it is 1 day. The information about delivery in 8 days may result, for example, from:
- the transit time on the carrier's side — if they need 7 days to deliver the order to the customer
- how weekends and holidays fall.
