Copyright and intellectual property rights
How we protect the intellectual property rights on Allegro
The Rights Protection Cooperation Program (RPCP) was created to eliminate offers with illegal products and services.
We do our best to ensure that buyers can find only original products on Allegro. To facilitate intellectual property rights compliance, we also cooperate with different entities. We do it within the Rights Protection Cooperation Program (RPCP).
How the program works
We created it to eliminate offers with illegal products and services.
The right holders can report to us whenever their rights are infringed. Other authorized entities can also submit reports concerning the infringement of rights.
We process reports on the infringement of:
- industrial property rights (e.g. when a seller offers non-original products)
- copyright (e.g. when a seller in his offers uses images without the consent of the economic rights' owner).
Why we do that
Thanks to the program we protect:
- brand owners — from the infringement of their rights
- sellers — from legal consequences of violations they commit — often unknowingly and unintentionally
- buyers — from purchasing products that violate the law.
This way, we also aim to raise awareness of issues related to intellectual property, the protection of rights, and their violations.
You can find more information on the companies and brands we cooperate with on the program's website.
What is intellectual property law
Intellectual property law regulates how people can use products of the creative process. It is related to intellectual activity in the fields of art, science, literature, and industry.

Intellectual property law essentially includes two categories:
- copyright, which protects works (texts, images, computer programs, photographs, and many more)
- industrial property rights, including trademarks and industrial designs.

How you can protect intellectual property rights
Get familiar with the basic rules to avoid infringing on intellectual property rights on Allegro.
The sale of counterfeit products on Allegro is prohibited. If you offer counterfeit products, you infringe on the registered trademark right ― which may lead to legal consequences. By doing so, you come across as an unreliable seller. Do not list products that infringe on the industrial design right. The external form of a product (its design) is also subject to protection. That means, the designs of popular items ― from furniture to electric toothbrush tips ― may be legally protected. Copying the product design ― even without the manufacturer's logo ― may infringe on its rights. Before you list an offer, make sure that the product you want to sell does not infringe on the industrial design right. The protection that stems from the industrial design right is a complex issue. If you have any doubts, seek counsel from a law firm that specializes in the intellectual property rights.
Make sure the offer description is accurate and does not mislead buyers. Describe the product you sell unambiguously and provide necessary details. Incorrect or ambiguous information in the offer description mislead buyers. That may also infringe on the brand owner's rights. That may also happen if you include a popular brand name in the description for comparison reasons. By doing so, you may violate the law by the unauthorized use of a registered trademark.
Copyright
You can only use materials that you have the rights to. If someone has used your materials in the offer without your consent, report it to us.
Copyright is a protection against using creative works ― such as texts, photos, pictures ― without the owner’s permission.
In the offer, you can use only the materials you have the rights to.
If you want to use other people’s works
To use other people’s works you need the copyright owner’s written consent. You cannot copy materials from catalogs, webpages, or other sellers’ offers without their approval. You may face legal consequences for copyright infringement, while we may remove your offer and send you a warning.
If somebody uses your works
Firstly, contact the person who has used your works. To do so, use the Ask a question option on the offer page ― this is the fastest way to clarify the matter.
If you do not manage to solve the problem, contact us. Describe your problem thoroughly and determine where the materials come from (for example, provide an offer number or a URL). We need to make sure that it is a copyright infringement before we act on it appropriately.
If we cannot be sure that we are dealing with an instance of copyright infringement based on your report, we will not remove the offer. We may send official communications to inform the seller about your concerns and request them to solve the problem directly with you.
How Allegro protects images from being copied
Images in your offers are secured electronically. We save unique data that allows us to identify the owner of the photo.
We automatically mark the images in your offers the moment you list an item. We save unique data that allow us to identify the image owner. Some of the techniques we use might slightly affect some hues of the images. In case of a Discussion, Allegro employees have the tools that allow them to read the data hidden in the images.
