What is two-factor authentication and why you should use it
Two-factor authentication is an additional security measure for your Allegro account. Apart from entering the password, you also need to enter an SMS code that you will receive.
Two-factor authentication is an additional layer of protection for your account against being accessed by other people.
How two-factor authentication works
When you sign in, we will ask you to:
- enter the password to your Allegro account
- enter the code which you can:
- get through the SMS
- generate in the mobile app.
Two-factor authentication and signing in with a phone number
You will not enable two-factor authentication if you have enabled phone number sign-in.
How to enable two-factor authentication with SMS
- Open the Two-Factor Authentication tab and click [Let's go].
- Choose SMS as the way you want to receive your codes. Then, click [next].
- Provide the phone number to which you will get the SMS codes. Once you assign a phone number to your account — you can select it from the list or enter a new one. Next, click [send code].
- Enter the SMS code.
- Click [enable]. Done!
How to enable two-factor authentication through the mobile app
- Open the Two-Factor Authentication tab and click [Let's go].
- Choose that you want to use the app to generate the codes. Then, click [next].
- Choose the device on which you want to generate the codes. Then, click [next].
If you are using this device — we will recognize it immediately. Then, we will redirect you to the window with a QR code.
- Open the app to generate the codes and scan the QR code. If you cannot scan it, click Show code and enter it in the app. Then, click [next].
- Enter the code from the app.
Click [enable].
For security reasons, also provide a phone number to which you want to receive a text message with the code when you cannot access the app. If that phone number is already assigned to your account — you can select it from the list or enter a new one. Next, click [send code].
Enter the code from the text message you receive.
Done!
How to disable two-factor authentication
- Open the Two-Factor Authentication tab.
- Next to the Two-factor authentication is enabled message, click [disable].
- Confirm your identity. Done!
Do you need to enter the code at each sign-in attempts
No. Just add a device to trusted devices. You can do it in the Two-Factor Authentication tab or while signing in. When you access your account from a trusted device, you do not need to enter the code.
Recognizing a trusted device is based on the browser you use. If you clear your browser's cookies or change its settings — we will not recognize the trusted device, so you will need to enter the code again. You will also need the code when you use the incognito mode.
How to add a trusted device in the Two-Factor Authentication tab
- Open the Two-Factor Authentication tab on a device you want to add to trusted devices.
- In the Trusted devices section click [add to trusted].
How to add a trusted device while signing-in
When you sign in to your Allegro account on a device you want to make a trusted one, select Do not ask for a code on this device.
How to change the phone number for the two-factor authentication purposes
- Open the Two-Factor Authentication tab.
- In the SMS section click [change settings].
- Next to the phone number, click [change phone number].
- Provide the new phone number and click [send code].
- Enter the code you get to the provided phone number.
- Click [change phone number]. Done!
