How to prepare products for sale in Slovakia
If you want to sell abroad, start by getting familiar with the local law. Learn what you should pay attention to when selling products to Slovakia.
Labels
Prepare product labels in Slovak. If you want, you can also provide translations into other languages — for example, English.
You can place the label directly on the product or add it in the form of a leaflet. Provide data like weight or volume, in metric units.
Each label must contain:
- product name
- producer/distributor details
- country of origin
- instructions for use — if it is required for your product or if you include such instructions in another language.
Certain product groups need to meet additional requirements. They depend on the type and purpose of a given product. We have gathered some examples in a table.
Product: | Information to be included on the label: |
---|---|
food, beverages, dietary supplements | Information to be included on the label: product composition |
textiles | Information to be included on the label: recommended product care method (in the form of a description or pictograms under the ISO 3758:2012 standard) and the product composition: full name of each material (compliant to the EU list along with its percentage share in the total weight of the product |
domestic appliances, electronic displays (televisions and monitors), light bulbs, and luminaires (if it is a non-replaceable light source or a product sold with a light bulb)) | Information to be included on the label: |
chemicals | Information to be included on the label: warning label on which you indicate: the product class and safety category, its composition and weight, warning symbols, safety instructions, and first aid instructions |
biocidal products | Information to be included on the label: This group is subject to special labeling rules which are the same throughout the European Union — and, consequently, the same as in Poland. |
plastic bottles and aluminum beverage packaging | Information to be included on the label: This group is subject to special labeling rules that are the same throughout the European Union — and, consequently, the same as in Poland. |
All of the above rules are in line with the European Union standards.
Product and offer description
The provisions of the Slovak law do not explicitly address the product description — they only focus on labels. If you sell on allegro.sk, you are subject to the provisions of the Allegro Terms & Conditions. We have gathered the rules regarding offer and product descriptions in Appendix No. 2.
Describe your product in a way that allows the Slovak buyers to recognize it. Ensure that your information is complete, clear, and legible — so as not to mislead customers. Provide:
- offer description in Slovak
- price in EUR
- information about the product and its characteristics
- producer details
- product weight, number of units, or size
- other information necessary to identify and use the product.
It is also a good idea to include information you put on the product label in the description — especially if your product has to meet additional requirements. The information about material composition or energy labels may be crucial for buyers.
